For many Westerners, Pick-Your-Own strawberries are a hallmark of Summer. Customers go out to the field with family and friends and, after a little time out in the sunshine with their knees in the dirt, come home with fresh produce picked by their very own hands. Pick-Your-Own farms were pioneered in the UK by radio and TV personality Ted Moult in the early sixties and gained vast popularity in the seventies and eighties. Though they declined with the expansion of global markets, they’ve seen a resurgence with the farm to table movement.
